Today’s Apprentices, Tomorrow’s Business Leaders

Posted on 06/03/2015

The latest data released by the office of National Statistics has revealed that the number of 16 and 17 year olds starting apprenticeships in Sheffield is nearly twice the national average and outperforming almost every major city in terms of new apprentice starts.

There are many good reasons why businesses across the Sheffield City Region are choosing to invest in apprenticeships. For some employers it’s a chance to overcome skills shortages in the workforce, or meet rising demand as their business grows; for others it’s an opportunity to help young people gain valuable experience and offering a chance to take the first steps towards building a career within their business. It’s worth remembering that many of today’s senior business leaders began their careers as apprentices.

For companies that haven’t previously employed an apprentice, finding the right help and guidance can be difficult. The sheer number of training providers alone can be confusing and difficult to understand without specialist knowledge and it’s therefore essential to get the right support from day one.

Skills Made Easy is a unique Government-funded programme which operates exclusively in the Sheffield City Region. The service delivers practical and impartial advice to employers at no cost to the business. Vacancies are matched with suitable candidates, helping to reduce the administrative burden of recruitment on employers and every business benefits from their own experienced account manager who is always on hand to offer support, advice and guidance, throughout the whole process.

Every apprenticeship programme delivered through Skills Made Easy is developed with the needs of employers in mind. This is particularly important when it comes to understanding training provisions and ensures the qualification your apprentice works towards reflects the job they are undertaking.

Options can be varied and diverse, ranging from traditional college day-release to bespoke programmes delivered within the workplace, with help and support available from your dedicated account manage along every step of the way.

Employers are able to compare the offerings of different training providers quickly and easily, secure grants and funding towards covering the training costs and apprentices work towards a recognised qualification. It’s win-win for all concerned.
