Apprenticeship open day for city region’s school leavers

Posted on 15/05/2015

School leavers from across the Sheffield City region are being given a chance to find out more about the wide range of opportunities available through apprenticeships at a special open day, designed to help them make the right choice after completing their exams.

The free-to-attend event has been organised by Skills Made Easy, a unique government-led scheme which designed to help young people take the first steps towards building a successful career as well as offering practical advice for businesses looking to expand their workforces.

Taking place on Thursday 28th May from 10:00am onwards, the informal open day will give school leavers a chance to meet members of Skills Made Easy’s apprenticeship team, find out more about hundreds of apprenticeship vacancies currently available within the City region, as well as offering practical advice when it comes to applying for apprenticeship vacancies and the application process.

Laura Hayfield, Programme Manager at Skills Made Easy said:

“When most people think of apprenticeships it’s perhaps commonly associated with jobs in heavy industry but in reality we are working with businesses operating in many different sectors ranging from law, accountancy and marketing as well as engineering and construction.

“Apprenticeships provide an opportunity for young people to earn a wage as well as working towards a recognised qualification, but crucially they are also gaining invaluable work experience, helping to build a career in their chosen industry.

“Many school leavers wrongly believe that the first step to securing an apprenticeship is to have a training programme in place, but it’s much more important for anyone thinking about starting an apprenticeship to secure employment and this event is aimed at helping anyone who is leaving school to receive the best possible start to their career.

“The Sheffield city region is outperforming almost every area of the UK when it comes to helping 16 and 17 year olds securing apprenticeships and this free-to-attend event is designed to give school leavers the best possible start to their working lives.

The event is free to attend although limited places are available. To book a place, please contact Skills Made Easy on 0114 229 6183
